On August 4, 2020, a major explosion took place in the port of Beirut, the capital of Lebanon. The disaster killed at least 165 people and injured more than 5,000, including more than 1,000 children. More than 150 people have been reported missing, more than 300,000 have lost their homes and some 100,000 children have been seriously affected. Shortly after the explosion, War Child started supporting children and families affected. The project focused on emergency first aid, Child Protection, PsychoSocial Support, childcare and providing a safe place and sports, games and music programs. Thanks in part to a donation of Fonds 1999, War Child was able to offer help to 8,527 children and their families.
