Stichting BedtimeStories provides reading sessions for patients, both adults and children, in hospitals, meeting centres and healthcare institutions. The patients experience these sessions as very positive; people are often pleasantly surprised by this unexpected visit with a song, story or poem at their bedside. It offers a moment to get away from being sick and be celebrated on a day when there may not be much to celebrate. It also creates a moment to focus on something personal: a nice walk on the beach, your loved one who proposed to you in a certain place in Amsterdam, or your child who is going to study next year. It is amazing to notice how often there is room to laugh together. And sometimes people just enjoy listening to a beautiful song. Thanks to a donation of Fonds 1999, Stichting BedtimeStories was able to visit ten hospitals in the Netherlands every week in 2023, which led to almost 4,000 special encounters between patients and actors.
