IT FRYSKE GEA – OTTER GRID
It Fryske Gea is the provincial association for nature conservation in the Dutch province of Friesland and aims to protect, preserve and develop nature, landscape and cultural heritage. The aim of the ‘otter grid project’ was to divert otters to the fauna passage by creating a grid, so that there are fewer traffic victims. There are two busy provincial roads surrounding the nature reserve Grutte Wielen; on the west side this is the Westerdyk and on the south side the provincial road N355 from Leeuwarden to Buitenpost. Thanks to a donation from Fonds 1999, the objectives have been achieved and the animals are now protected.
