On 8 and 9 November 2025, BassFest (formerly Dutch Double Bass Festival) presented its fifth edition at Theater Zuidplein in Rotterdam. For two days, the festival offered a rich and diverse programme of more than twenty concerts at a single location, including concerts by Mehdi Nassouli, Mohini Dey, Sasha Witteveen, James Oesi, Victor Wooten and Dave Holland, with the central objective of showcasing the versatility of the bass within a wide range of musical genres. The festival featured jazz, classical, global music, funk and contemporary music, among other genres, and served as a meeting place for musicians and audiences from diverse backgrounds.

The audience targets were more than achieved and the festival was very well received in terms of quality. Free pop-up concerts in De Hillevliet also strengthened the connection with the neighbourhood and the local audience. With the support of Fonds 1999, BassFest 2025 was not only able to offer a high-quality artistic experience, but also to contribute to the transmission and renewal of musical culture around the bass. The festival encouraged inclusivity, curiosity and talent development and showed that its impact extends beyond the festival weekend: visitors made new musical discoveries, established lasting contacts and found inspiration to connect further with music.
