It Fryske Gea is the provincial association for nature conservation in the Dutch province of Friesland and aims to protect, preserve and develop nature, landscape and cultural heritage. In recent years, It Fryske Gea has been committed to improving the nature reserve Eanjumer Kolken, a well-known area for meadow birds. The Kuperuspolder is a reserve near the Eanjumer Kolken. Thanks to a donation from Fonds 1999, a wetland area could be developed in the Kuperuspolder. This rewetting contributes to making the area more attractive for meadow birds. The project has already led to a wetter area where water is better retained and an increase in the number of lapwings has also been registered.
