The VoorleesExpress (“The ReadingExpress”) stands for having fun with language. As a network of volunteers, the VoorleesExpress has been using knowledge and experience for more than 18 years to give families confidence in their language and to lower the threshold for language and language development. Participating children are between the ages of 2 and 8. Volunteers from the VoorleesExpress visit approximately 5,000 families at home, 20 times a year. In recent years it has become clear that there is an increasing need for a similar offer for older children: Children who can already read on their own, but who find it difficult to do so and therefore cannot keep up at school. For this purpose, the VoorleesExpress developed the DoorleesExpress, together with a number of local libraries. With help of a contribution from Fonds 1999, the DoorleesExpress could be tested nationally with 20 local operators of the VoorleesExpress. Following positive results, the VoorleesExpress is now available to all VoorleesExpress operators since September 2023.
