SAILWISE FOUNDATION – RENOVATION ROBINSON CRUSOE

© 2023 Stichting Sailwise

On the idyllic island of Robinson Crusoe in the middle of the waters of Loosdrecht, SailWise has been organizing active water sports holidays for people with a physical and/or mental disability for many years. Participants can enjoy sailing, canoeing, rowing and other water sports to their heart’s content. They enjoy a fantastic time on the water here. There is accommodation on the island for thirty people where the participants and volunteers stay during the holidays. Due to the intensive use over the past 25 years, a thorough renovation of the building was desperately needed. Partly thanks to the donation from Fonds 1999, it was possible to carry out this major renovation during the winter of 2022-2023 and also to make the latest disability-related adjustments. For example, the kitchen has been enlarged and made more accessible to participants and ceiling lifts have been installed to make it easier for people in wheelchairs to get in and out of bed. Furthermore, the entire building has been thoroughly renovated and made more sustainable. Robinson Crusoe is therefore completely ready for the future, so that SailWise can again organize challenging water sports holidays for people with disabilities for many years to come.
