POPPODIUM EKKO – THIS IS HOW YOU DO IT

During the education project This Is How You Do It, pre-vocational secondary education students from Yuverta worked for two months on their own performance in EKKO and thus received a unique look before and behind the scenes of a pop venue. Partly thanks to a donation from Fonds 1999, they were given the opportunity to choose a specialization that they could delve into throughout the entire project, under the guidance of professionals from the music world. All kinds of different roles were discussed, including those of programmer, artist, marketer, producer and light and sound technician: in ‘This Is How You Do it’ everything was in the hands of the students. A large number of the professionals that the pop sector so desperately needs often come from pre-vocational secondary education (VMBO): this includes artists, technicians, producers, managers and set builders. Participating in ‘This Is How You Do it’ was a meaningful way for every student to experience the importance of collaboration, to work with music and to discover their own talent.
