HERMITAGE FOR CHILDREN

© 2021

Every year 10,000 primary school students, including 3,500 children with a relatively weak socio-economic position, follow the education program of the Hermitage for Children. From every Grade 4 / Year 5 group (Groep 6 in the Netherlands) that comes to the museum, the teachers of the Hermitage select approximately three talents for the 4.5-year talent program. In this way, all children, including those with a background in which art education is not self-evident, get exactly the same chance of selection. In this way, in the talent classes, children from all districts and neighbourhoods of Amsterdam come together and receive a special and free talent training. With this program, the museum fulfils a very important pillar under the foundation of the Hermitage for Children: ‘social inclusion’ – every child must be given the opportunity.
