At the ARTIS Groote Museum (the ARTIS Grand Museum), visitors go on a personal exploration of themselves. By feeling, tasting, listening, seeing and smelling, the new museum layout challenges the visitor to take a broader view of the world around us. Thanks in part to a donation from Fonds 1999, ARTIS was able to develop the world’s first scent tunnel in collaboration with inventor Ton Harreveld. Through the many scents, visitors get in touch with their long-term olfactory memory. The aim is not to recognise the smell, but to experience the memory or emotion it evokes. A unique project with a special impact on visitors, and already an indispensable part of the museum.
