Participation is not a luxury, but a basic need. Guided by this conviction, Stichting Vier het Leven removes the practical, physical or social barriers that hold many older people back from getting out and about. With the support of Fonds 1999 and the efforts of many dedicated volunteers, almost 4,000 senior people in North Holland alone were able to enjoy a valuable, sociable and connecting afternoon or evening out in 2025. Trips to the cinema, theatre, concerts or museums, always with accompaniment and door-to-door transport. Outings ranging from small and local to grand and special, including a visit to Sail Amsterdam this year. Each one was a valuable encounter and experience that contributed to the older people’s enjoyment of life and helped ease loneliness. “It’s as if my life is moving again! An outing like this brings me out of the silence.”
