Military personnel, police officers, ambulance staff and firefighters are regularly exposed to distressing events in the course of their work, putting them at increased risk of PTSD. For these (former) uniformed professionals, who have dedicated themselves to our society with great commitment, PTSD can have a major impact on daily life. Activities that come naturally to others can become increasingly difficult due to stress and anxiety. With the PTSD Partnership Workshop, KNGF Guide Dogs draws on its years of expertise to support people with PTSD and their own dog.

Thanks to the support of Fonds 1999, the workshop could be further developed and professionalised. During the workshop, participants teach their dog skills that can help with, for example, rising tension, anxiety, and nightmares. In this way, the trusted bond between person and dog is used to provide more stability and confidence, and to help participants face situations that have become difficult because of PTSD.

The support of Fonds 1999 has also made a lasting result possible. What began as a project has now grown into a permanent service offered by KNGF Guide Dogs. This means that (former) uniformed professionals with PTSD and their own dog will be able to make use of the Partnership Workshop in the future as well. In this way, the Partnership Workshop helps them gain more confidence and independence, improve their quality of life, and take a more active part in society once again.
