HORTUS BOTANICUS AMSTERDAM – RENEWAL OF THE CLIMATE GREENHOUSE

Hortus Botanicus Amsterdam is one of the oldest botanical gardens in the world. It is a place where visitors are inspired by the plant kingdom and learn about the vital importance of plants for life on Earth. A key highlight of the garden is the Climate Greenhouse, which was in need of a major renovation. The Hortus had a clear ambition: to create the first fully sustainable and climate-neutral public greenhouse, telling the story of plant biodiversity and its relationship with climate.

Thanks in part to the support of Fonds 1999, the Hortus was able to realise this ambition. The greenhouse is equipped with insulating roofs and façades, intelligent and energy-efficient climate systems, and water storage for rainwater. Visitors embark on a journey through diverse landscapes featuring plants from three different climate zones. With the renewal of the Climate Greenhouse, the Hortus takes an important step towards a sustainable future and strengthens its role as a centre for nature education.
