Not ten, but eleven festival days, featuring an impressive total of 98 events: thirteen masterclasses, six Bach & Breakfast sessions, eleven world premieres, four family performances, and twelve concerts in the Cello Yurt, presented by more than 80 soloists, two cello octets, and sixteen orchestras and ensembles.
In celebration of the 10th edition of the Biennale—made possible in part thanks to a donation from Fonds 1999—the number of participating cellists, orchestras and ensembles was so extensive that the festival was expanded by one additional day on a one-off basis. Highlights from the previous nine Biennales were revisited, alongside many new productions and premieres. The Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra made its first-ever appearance, while the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, the Residentie Orchestra and many other orchestras and ensembles returned. In total, the festival welcomed nearly 27,000 visitors, with more than 8,500 additional attendees at events leading up to the festival. Audience enthusiasm was evident throughout, reflected both in on-site reactions and in an even higher audience satisfaction score of 9.1 in the post-festival survey.
