ARTIS – ARTIS AQUARIUM ACCESSIBLE TO EVERYONE
The restoration of the ARTIS Aquarium offered a unique opportunity to make this historic building accessible to everyone. During the restoration, essential improvements were made, such as the installation of new lifts that make all floors accessible, the placement of a ramp for access to the diorama and the expansion of the toilet facilities with toilets for disabled people. In addition, lighting conditions were adjusted for visually impaired visitors and the acoustics were improved with sound-absorbing measures. Finally, the entire building was made more accessible to the public, giving visitors a look behind the scenes in various places. Without the financial support of Fonds 1999, these improvements would not have been realised on the same scale and with the same quality. Thanks to this contribution, the ARTIS Aquarium is now an inclusive and hospitable environment that invites everyone to discover the underwater world.
