Amsterdam-based viola trio 3VIOLAS is following its own and adventurous path. They create and compose their own music, trying to reach new and wider audiences. On 22 October 2022, this all came together at two big concerts in Amsterdam’s Zuiderkerk, during the Amsterdam Dance Event. A large screen was placed in the middle of the Zuiderkerk, illuminated on two sides by Vincent Rang’s projections. The audience was seated at both sides of the screen, and below the screen stood 3VIOLAS. For these concerts, 3VIOLAS and Vincent Rang had created a special set, in which the music and visuals merged completely. 3VIOLAS’ music is inspired by nature, and therefore this theme was also reflected in the performances. During the concerts, a tree slowly emerged from the visuals, while 3VIOLAS played the piece ‘May’: The data of sap streams of a beech tree, transformed into a piece of music. The project could be carried out with a donation from Fonds 1999.
