With support from Fonds 1999, War Child has worked with local communities in Lebanon (North Lebanon and Baalbek) to create a protective environment for vulnerable boys and girls through the SEEDS method by which the community is supported in identifying risks to the safety of children. The method helps to examine which risks the community wants to tackle and what they can do together to protect children. Putting the reins in the hands of the local community increases the chance of sustainable action to keep children safe. Topics such as school dropout, child labour, exploitation and sexual abuse were discussed. One man was so motivated to do something that he sold his car to build a safe space for children. A total of 1,500 boys, 1,500 girls and more than 2,000 adults were reached.
