At the Leerorkest, almost 5,000 children learn to play a musical instrument annually and experience what it is like to make music together in an orchestra. In neighborhoods of the city in need of extra attention. The Leerorkest has grown radpidly since it was founded almost 15 years ago and they are currently working hard to use the Leerorkest method to promote local music initiatives for children across the country, using the instruments of the classical symphony orchestra. Lessons take place at school, during school hours. Children, for whom music lessons are not evident, receive an instrument on loan for practicing at home. With help of a donation by Fonds 1999, the Dutch Leerorkest Foundation was able to organize the Anniversary Concert Leerorkest 15 years. Around 500 children played and sang together with the Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra in The Concertgebouw.
