LEKKER LUPINE – LUPINE IN THE NETHERLANDS

Lekker Lupine stimulates the consumption and cultivation of organic lupine in the Netherlands and contributes to the protein transition and a robust food system. Lupine is a nutritious, local alternative to imported soy, promotes healthy soil and strengthens health and biodiversity. Thanks to the support of Fonds 1999, Lekker Lupine was able to expand their digital platform www.lekkerlupine.nl in 2024 with additional knowledge for growers, new recipes and practical processing tips. In addition, more than 20 arable farmers were guided in cultivation, chain partners such as chefs and food processors were made enthusiastic and Lekker Lupine introduced lupine products in the catering industry, healthcare and sports nutrition. Lekker Lupine also organised knowledge meetings for growers and, together with chefs and groups such as Grandparents for the Climate, also dinners and excursions. A milestone was the introduction of the first organic lupine flour from Dutch soil. In collaboration with miller Inveja, Lekker Lupine developed this product, in which costs and revenues are shared transparently.
